Dale Chihuly’s Three Installations in Columbus

Dale Chihuly is an internationally renowned American artist celebrated for transforming glass into vivid, large-scale works of art. Known for his sweeping forms, brilliant color, and immersive installations, Chihuly has helped redefine glass as a major contemporary art medium, with work shown in museums, gardens, and public spaces around the world.

Yellow Neon Chandelier

Located inside the Columbus Area Visitors Center and on view for free to everyone, Yellow Neon Chandelier, by artist Dale Chihuly, contains 900 hand-blown elements in shades of vibrant yellow.

The chandelier is nine feet tall and six feet across at its widest point and weighs 1,200 pounds.

Installed alongside Chihuly’s Persians, Yellow Neon Chandelier was a gift from J. Irwin and Xenia Miller in 1995.

Persians

Persians, a common form used by Seattle glass artist Dale Chihuly, are visually curious with their old-world influence and powerful use of color. The hand-spun glass plates are installed within the two-story bay window surrounding an open staircase at the Columbus Area Visitors Center. Installed alongside Chihuly’s Yellow Neon Chandelier, the Persians were a gift from J. Irwin and Xenia Miller in 1995.

Sun Garden Panels

Sun Garden in Suspended Circle, a public art piece commissioned to fit a unique space, was created by artist Dale Chihuly, who painted and signed each of the 32 plexiglas drawings positioned inside a round skylight and backlit by the sun. Each drawing depicts one of Chihuly’s series. Any Chihuly fan will want to make the short trip to the Columbus Learning Center, where this unique artwork is on view. Located at The Columbus Learning Center, 4555 Central Avenue.

Sun Garden Panels in Suspended Circle was commissioned and contributed by the Richard Johnson Family as the signature artistic element in the Johnson Family Atrium.
