Indiana’s Largest State Park

Brown County State Park, the largest state park in Indiana, spans more than 16,000 acres of rolling hills, wooded terrain, and misty ravines. Often referred to as the “Little Smokies,” the landscape is reminiscent of the Great Smoky Mountains. In autumn, vibrant foliage makes the park one of the region’s most popular scenic destinations. Brown County State Park is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Brown County State Park offers a wide range of activities and experiences for visitors looking to enjoy the outdoors. With more than 70 miles of trails, the park is a favorite destination for hiking and mountain biking. Guests can also explore the landscape on horseback, with both guided trail rides and facilities for those bringing their own horses.

For those who enjoy time by the water, the park features two serene lakes:
Ogle Lake – Open for fishing and small-boat use, including rowboats and electric motors.
Strahl Lake – A quiet, no-boats lake ideal for fishing and peaceful walks.

A valid Indiana fishing license and lake permit are required for fishing or boating and can be obtained at the Park Office. Please note that boat rentals are not available within the park.
