James “Jim” Paris is associated in Columbus, Indiana, with the Bartholomew County Public Library addition, the addition to Fire Station No. 1, the Senior Center renovation, the Home Federal Savings and Loan project, and numerous private residences. A longtime Columbus architect, Paris practiced through the Paris/Bingham Partnership until his retirement in 2005. His local work ranged from civic and public-service buildings to financial and residential projects, and he also served as a consultant to Don M. Hisaka during construction of the Bartholomew County Jail and as facilities architect for Columbus City Hall. The City of Columbus additionally notes that Paris designed the library expansion with the approval of I. M. Pei, linking his work directly to one of the city’s best-known architectural landmarks.
