Kevin Roche is associated in Columbus, Indiana, with the U.S. Post Office, the Cummins Engine Plant expansion, the Cummins Corporate Office Building, the Cummins MidRange Engine Plant, the Irwin Union Bank & Trust arcade and central office addition, the Irwin Union Capital Corporation renovation, and the Columbus Area Visitors Center expansion and renovation. Led by Kevin Roche, the firm helped shape several of Columbus’s most significant late-modern buildings through work that combined technical precision, adaptability, and a strong response to civic and corporate needs. After Eero Saarinen’s death in 1961, Roche and John Dinkeloo completed the major projects already underway in Saarinen’s office, including the Gateway Arch, the TWA Flight Center, Dulles International Airport, Deere & Company Headquarters, and the CBS Building. Roche later received the Pritzker Architecture Prize, architecture’s highest international honor.
