Completed after his untimely death in 1961, North Christian Church was one of Saarinen’s final designs. The project was completed by Roche Dinkeloo & Associates in 1964. The hexagonal sanctuary rises from a landscaped earth mound, its low form emphasizing a slender 192-foot spire. Landscape architect Dan Kiley shaped the grounds into a series of “parking rooms.” Saarinen called the church one of the works he most hoped would endure, describing it as embodying “a real spirit that speaks forth to all Christians.” In 2024, the congregation gifted the property to the Bartholomew County Public Library, which now envisions The LEX: The Library of Experience as a dynamic space for learning, connection, and inspiration.
